The Europeans who have arrived to a New World, have found here many grape plants, but the wine prepared from their fruits, was extreme poor quality, therefore subsequently began to grow up the European grades of grapes, and wine from the local was used only in religious ceremonies. The grades brought from Europe, did not get accustomed, therefore they should be crossed to the local. Hybrids have appeared durable and gave quite good raw materials for wine. But wine turned out sour, had a smell of wet fur and smack of meat, for as has received the name «foxy». In the west of business continent went differently - the climate here is similar on Mediterranean, therefore Spaniards in territory of California had no special problems with cultivation the European grades of grapes. In them the Mexican grade Mission was very popular. Presently this grade has appeared pressed by European Shardonne and Caberne Sovinon. With "the gold-rush" beginning it has appeared very favourable to sell wine to the gold diggers who have flooded California.

So «the wine boom» which was headed by the Hungarian wine maker Agoston Harashi has begun. Manufacture and at east coast of the country was gradually adjusted. After phylloxera invasion the Prohibition which the period of "great depression» has followed, and later - the Second World War has been accepted. Thus, possibility to be restored winemaking has received only in the fifties, but it was not the result of that Americans preferred high alcohol drinks. Only after some decades tastes began to vary - the fashion included the wine use, this industry began to receive investments, the quantity wine economy began to grow promptly. As a whole, the American manufacturers are attached to application of the advanced receptions in technological process. Consumers in this country - adherents of production, therefore the most part in the markets occupy local wines. The USA are engaged in export of the wines which basic consumers are Japan, Canada, England. Rapid development of winemaking has demanded introduction of accurate classification, but feature of the American system that here is not present such accurate, as in Europe territorial division of making regions, manufacturers define landings and grades in staff, but mixture of the raw materials received in different states, is rigidly limited. In 1983 the system «American wine regions» AVA American Viticultural Areas is created. Such division is rather specific, but gives considerable freedom to manufacturers. As a whole, almost all states of the country make wine, but only in four of them giving 95 % of all wine production, this industry is put well.
